Todd Steward


Todd Allen Steward, 55, of Norwalk died Sunday, March 24, 2019, at his home in Norwalk.

A celebration of life service was 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Des Moines Central Community of Christ Church in Des Moines. A luncheon immediately followed the church service. Online condolences may be left at www.olearyfunerals.com.

Todd Allen Steward, son of Allen and Karen (Ingle) Steward, was born March 23, 1964, in Galesburg, Illinois. Todd grew up on his parent’s farm near Galva, Illinois. He graduated from Galva High School in 1982. Following high school he worked for Carpet Time in Galva, Illinois. 

On Feb. 14, 1986, he married Esther Detrick. They made their home in Galva, Illinois. Todd worked at Classic Coach Interiors in Kewanee, Illinois, for a year customizing vans for the handicapped.

Todd and Esther moved to central Iowa. Todd roofed for Newberry Construction in Ankeny for a couple of years before going to work in 1990 for Paul Mueller Company (PMC) as a warehouse worker. He was promoted up through the ranks to a buyer and supervisor at PMC in Osceola, where he was employed for more than 27 years. He also remodeled with his sons at his personal business venture, Affordable Home Improvements by Todd.

He became a member of Des Moines Central Community of Christ Church in 2010. He served as a deacon beginning in 2013, with ministry on the leadership team, as an assistant CFO and building and grounds officer for the building committee. At West Des Moines Community of Christ Church, he served for more than a year on the facility management team.  

Todd is survived by his wife Esther of Norwalk; sons, Christopher and Trenton of Norwalk; parents, Allen and Karen Steward of Galva, Illinois, and Zephyrhills, Florida; brother Dan (Deanna) Steward of Galva, Illinois; sister DeAnna Black of Phoenix, Arizona; mother-in-law Mary Jo (Robert) Bowen; brother-in-law Joseph Detrick of Waukee; sister-in-law, Tirzah (Richard) Lonsdale of Moline, Illinois; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Todd was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herschel and Geneva (Larner) Steward and Forest and Bessie (Sarver) Ingle and father-in-law Earl Wayne Detrick.
