DES MOINES – Mason Cassady competed in four events at the Co-Ed State Track and Field Meet over the course of May 17 and 18.
Cassady completed the 200 meter dash prelims in a time of 23.08, earning him 15th of the competitors that ran in the preliminaries.
Cassady also competed in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 11.42. That mark didn’t qualify him for the finals, but was good enough for 11th best of the qualifying times.
Interstate 35’s 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Jake Sheeder, Jack Smith, Bradyen Egli and Cassady just missed out on qualifying for the finals, in a time of 44.40, earning ninth.
The 44.40 mark set a new school record in the event.
Cassady also anchored I-35’s sprint medley relay along with Grant Richardson, Egli and Sheeder. The foursome finished 18th in a time of 1:37.89.
“Last year, me and Brayden (Egli) came up here to watch (Dominic Cresta’s) 3,200 and we saw himárun here and we were likeá‘we’ve got to be here next year,’ Cassady said. “The goal was really to just get here all year and four events on top of that wasájust amazing. Super blessed to do that.”
