Clarke boys soccer incurs first loss; finish regular season strong

KNOXVILLE — The Indians bounced back from their first loss of the season as Ernezto Cortez netted two goals, including an overtime golden goal for the 5-4 win.

Martin Corona added a goal, as did Chris Puente and Pedro Delgado.

“I think they still did really good. They worked really hard to get back on the board,” Clarke coach Jorge Avalos said. “It was 2-0 at the beginning and we came back. It was good to see we are mentally strong to pick up a win.”

The Clarke boys soccer team incurred its first loss of the season by way of an 8-0 defeat at Knoxville on May 7.

Clarke (5-1) opens the postseason in Class 1A Substate 7 against Creston boys soccer (7-7) at Des Moines Christian in Urbandale at 7 p.m. Monday, May 21.
