Ankeny Christian Academy 55, Murray 23

MORAVIA – Murray couldn’t hang with the Bluegrass Conference’s most dominant team Thursday, falling 55-23 to Ankeny Christian Academy Thursday.

Reece Held scored a team-high seven points and picked up eight rebounds in the game as well.

Ankeny Christian Academy had 13 steals and three different members finish with double-digit points scored. Jayce Goergen and Caleb Grizzle both posted double-doubles.

Payton Flaherty hit the Mustangs lone 3-point basket.

Murray 38,

Lamoni 37

MORAVIA – Up one point in the game’s closing seconds, the Murray boys kept Lamoni far enough away from the basket for the Demons to miss a last second attempt, giving the Mustangs third place in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament Saturday.

At half, Murray trailed by one, but got a five-point swing in the fourth quarter. Keegan Johnson led Murray with 10 points, going 2 of 3 from beyond the arc.

Reece Held distributed six assists while adding four points, pulling down three rebounds and grabbing two steals.

As a unit the Mustangs swiped nine steals.

Girls

Diagonal 58, Murray 56

MORAVIA – Ally Waske, Zadie Hatfield and Bre Klein combined for 49 of Murray’s 56 points in a close loss to Diagonal in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament semifinals Friday.

Diagonal’s Katie Sobotka hit a game-winning basket from the wing as the clock expired to sneak out a victory for the Maroonettes.

Kendra Boles and Britta Callstrom both hauled in eight rebounds for Murray in the loss.

Along with her 17 points, Hatfield grabbed four rebounds, passed out eight assists, swiped six steals and blocked two shots.

Waske had five blocks to go along with her 20 points.

Murray 45, Lamoni 13

MORAVIA – Murray was all over the Lamoni Demons in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament third place game, as they won 45-13 in Moravia Saturday.

Ally Waske posted the lone double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, but Bre Klein ended the game a rebound shy of her with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Mustangs pulled down 16 offensive rebounds in the win while attempting 55 shots.

Hailey Chew and Kendra Boles added eight and seven points, respectively.
