Roadrunners own home tourney

TRURO — Interstate 35 hosted its Rich Gray Classic, and easily ran away with the team title by over 60 team points.

The Roadunners posted 204 team points, easily besting second place Martensdale-St. Marys and Van Meter/Earlham, who each finished with exactly 142 points.

Zac Willey (138 pounds) showed why he is the Predicament's fifth-ranked wrestler. He won a title, defeating Alex Hannah of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont by 11-0 major decision in the final.

Willey won matches by tech fall, pin, 5-2 decision (against Albia's Dominick Morris) and then the dominant showing in the final.

Jake Hutton (285) won three matches, each by decision, without yielding a point (4-0, 2-0, 5-0).

Other placewinners for I-35 were Casey Baker (120) in second, whose lone loss was to undefeated Albia wrestler Aden Reeves, Tryston Palmer (113) in sixth, Brody Nelson (126) in third, Ethan Elliott (145) in third, Brayden Egli (152) in third, Drew Kirkpatrick (170) in second, Mason Woosley (182) in fourth and Antonio Arzani (195) in fifth.

Interstate 35 won wrestling duals against three strong programs Thursday. The Roadrunners defeated Panorama (40-26), Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas (60-22) and Van Meter/Earlham (56-17). The Roadrunners then had Jake Hutton (285) and Zac Willey (138).
